The contemporary art work Red Tree is the first of the truly willfully blurred photography compositions I made sometime around the winter of 2005-06 in Opatija, Croatia.

I think it was winter because I remember the bleakness of the weather. Very gray. And shooting black and white and grayscale photography for so long I finally got around to questioning myself why which resulted in an old debate that color photography was gimmicky and dazzly only because of its color or that it was just too much reality which is what I always wanted to get away from. And my arguments had been valid to myself but then here I was in this crisis of need for COLOR.

One day the sun broke as clouds lifted and there was color and there was the Red Tree with colors of pinks, reds, oranges and yellows and upon the background of sprouts of a newly planted green turf I had been watching since it was still rolled up in mounds waiting to be layed down. So having my chance I knew that the only way for me to justify it all was to abstract it which is what became a new style for me of blurred photography.

The Red Tree had three companions in close proximity to its creation that are to me important markers in my artistic progression. Along with White Fence, Yellow Flowers and Hanging Laundry, Red Tree helped make up the whole color spectrum I wanted to assure myself of never again losing to foul weather.
