Fine Art Contemporary Photography
in Color
by Jesse Ross

This is the most current collection of color contemporary fine art photography by American art photographer Jesse Ross.

Most of the work here has undergone an experimental technique of having been blurred through the lens of analogue 35mm cameras (Zenit B, Zorki, Olympus om1n) to indigenous, often unpredictable film stock to a scanned digital clean up and preparation for print. An inherent motivation of this collection has been to work with what was at hand and more with what was given.

The pricing structure for unique one of a kind first proofs and limited edition prints is creative and a fine art in itself. However, this work, it should be noted has been made at considerable expenditure to the artist.

Work is presently characterized in the floral photography, still life photography, landscapes photography and purely abstract photography genres which intersect with earlier traditional as well as transitional black and white photography.

Please enjoy your stay and come again.

After losing a second entire collection of photography work to a theft in 2005 (a prior collection was lost in 2002) and having been working previously exclusively in both black and white as well as more or less straight photography I decided that it might be a good time to evaluate what sort of pictures I wanted to make now having a completely blank slate.

Being influenced by my new home on the Adriatic Sea side of Opatija, Croatia I ended up going solidly to color composition in an experimental style that by blurring subjects through the lens of my camera (a very old Zenit B 35mm, by the way - I can hardly see the image through the glass..) abstracts shapes and colors. The style aims at turning away from the documentary and straight contemporary art photography approach toward a freer more creative and personally expressive style.

With a couple of exceptions, most notably the early and transitional monochrome Opatija Cafe Shadows which is very much a holdover to the straight and black and white genres, and the in-focus but abstract and also transitional series of Banana Leaves Compositions all other works in the color art photography segment of this site are experimental non straight renderings of various subjects that range through but are not limited to the floral photography, still life, landscapes and the purely abstract photography categories.

My more experimental art photography works began with a fortuitously salvaged study of a White Fence made in 2004 and an early study of soft focus with an arrangement of Yellow Flowers. The early series progressed with pictures of a Red Tree, Pink Flowers, Hanging Laundry a scene with a Magnolia tree in bloom to culminate in a composition of a Yellow Mimosa by the middle of 2006.

As of this writing in the summer of 2007 with about 10 rolls of film yet undeveloped and another 10 still in consideration as well as countless unmentioned works adorning the pages of this site I present my newest offerings to the color photography world in the magnificent blurred work Cypresses, a smaller more playful work called White Car with Pink Flowers as well as two new photography series called Carnival and Blue.
