Jesse Ross was transported with full police escort to be born in Crescent City, California 23 December, 1972. The nearest hospital to the family home in Brookings, Oregon was located across the state border.
Auspiciously the beginnings may account for subsequent transitory ways as well as various other things (police escorts)(color and compositional intuition - Ross's earliest memories were nightly private viewings of sunsets from an isolated cliff on the rugged Pacific Ocean in Brookings).
The artist grew up throughout the western states of California, Oregon and Washington, where his family still lives near Tacoma. Ross has traveled extensively since childhood, living and growing in sundry places both in and outside of the U.S. and has always been insatiated of diet of influence and its consequentially expanded poetic expression.
After concerning himself with other modes of expression Ross began seriously making pictures in his early teens. From his mid 20's, while culturally isolated, he devoted himself nearly exclusively to poeticizing photography as his artistic medium.
At age 23 Ross pursued his training as an artist (though he still didn't know it) and as a human to Prague and Berlitz (where like James Joyce he taught English) in the mid-90's. He returned to Tacoma for a three year intensive study period of photography and the arts before relocating again to the influential Czech Republic and the noted Bohemian and Artists "Mecca" of Česky Krumlov in 2001-02 as post graduate study.
He moved on to further residencies in Berlin and Budapest before traveling south to Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Sarajevo and unimaginable points in between. Ross finally "settled" in the north Adriatic Opatija (Kvarner) Region of Croatia from 2004 to the present (Summer 2007).
Ross has ended up more than his share poetically destitute for his artistic conscience, having been imprisoned, expelled and exiled, robbed, attacked, homeless, and hungry.. always!! to connect the circle of experience with cathartic, stylish and indomitably optimistic art work.
Jesse Ross has been gaining attention lately for works like Yellow Mimosa and the strange experimental Sarajevo Blurred Series. The first of Ross's current prevailing style of hyper-realist "blurred" photography were Red Tree, Yellow Flowers, Hanging Laundry and White Fence representing a grasp, if not a flair, for handling of color. Works in the method continue in progressing arrangements though Ross's artistic ethic remains free to initiate creative estrangements.
